Social Justice

Art. 38

State to secure a social order for the promotion of welfare of the people

The government should work to create a society where justice - social, economic, and political - reaches every part of life. It should try to reduce inequalities in income, status, facilities, and opportunities among individuals and groups.

Art. 39

Certain principles of policy to be followed by the State

The government should ensure that: all citizens get adequate means to earn a living, wealth and resources serve the common good, the economy doesn't lead to concentration of wealth, men and women get equal pay for equal work, workers' health isn't abused, and children get opportunities to develop in a healthy way.

Art. 39A

Equal justice and free legal aid

The government should provide free legal aid so that no one is denied justice because they can't afford a lawyer. The justice system should be equally accessible to everyone.

Art. 41

Right to work, to education and to public assistance in certain cases

The government should, within its economic capacity, ensure the right to work, education, and public assistance in cases of unemployment, old age, sickness, and disability.

Art. 42

Provision for just and humane conditions of work and maternity relief

The government should ensure fair and humane working conditions and provide maternity relief to working mothers.

Art. 43

Living wage, etc, for workers

The government should try to ensure a living wage, decent standard of life, and full enjoyment of leisure for all workers. It should also promote cottage industries in rural areas.

Art. 43A

Participation of workers in management of industries

The government should take steps to ensure workers' participation in the management of industries. This means workers should have a say in how their workplaces are run.

Art. 46

Promotion of educational and economic interests of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other weaker sections

The government should promote the educational and economic interests of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other weaker sections, and protect them from social injustice and exploitation.
